Don't worry, I don't usually wear that much makeup! If you should know one thing about me, it's that I absolutely love to dance - it's my passion. More about my journey of dance later on, though!
Hi, my name is Khevna, and I am a rising senior at Nashua High School South. I was born in Vadodara, Gujarat in India and moved to the US when I was 2. I have lived in Nashua, NH for my entire life since then. I decided to participate in the Synthetic Biology program at the BLI to explore my passion for biology and interest in the biomedical field of study.
My interest in biology blossomed when I took the class Integrated Biology & Chemistry in middle school. I realized that I loved the biology portion of that class, and after taking AP Biology in 10th grade, my love for this subject was confirmed.
My goal for my future is to make a career in the field of medical research to come up with innovative therapies to cure the world's most complex diseases and to create a healthier planet. The most memorable science experiences that I have had in school were in the AP Biology lab. In AP Biology, we conducted labs on a broad range of subjects, including PCR, gel electrophoresis, and cell transformation. I was also a part of Science Olympiad for all 4 years of high school and a member of Science Quiz Bowl for 2 years (serving as the secretary for 1 year in each). Outside of school, I took a course about the principles of biopharmaceutical manufacturing, which taught me how biologic medicines are made for patients in the real world.
As mentioned before, Indian classical & Bollywood dance is more than just a hobby for me; as my passion, it is one of my favorite things to do. I recently completed my Nritya Nipuna (a solo dance performance), which is a milestone in a girl's Indian Classical Bharatanatyam dance career after 7 years of rigorous training. I also love to read, volunteer at my local hospital, and learn about my Indian culture.
I am so excited to have the opportunity to work in a synthetic biology laboratory and make tons of friends along the way!
